Today is my last day of freedom, until the first schedule summer camp which isn’t for a couple of weeks.
I am torn between what I NEED to do TODAY like go to Costco to buy chicken (only store bought chicken I can eat thanks to the corn allergy), and what I WANT to do, which is stay home and watch Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth.
Ah! Decisions, decisions….
I keep coming across that saying lately. Comparing oneself to others, noticing the differences in your lives really does get in the way of being happy with what you DO have.
But I’ve also been struggling with that statement.
Where is the line between comparison stealing your joy, and realizing you’re not getting things you deserve? And I’m not talking about stuff. Why do some people have such struggles in life? Why do bad things happen to good people? And why do good things happen to bad people? How unfair.
When I would complain about some inequality as child, my mother used to always tell me that life isn’t fair. I really hated when she said that.
When that statement gets stuck in my head and the internal struggle begins, I’m going to try to stop the cycle and try remember to be thankful for what I do have. Today, I am thankful for such beautiful weather after such terrible storms yesterday!
What are you thankful for?
We’ve had severe thunderstorms all afternoon and evening and a tornado warning earlier, so my son was wound up with worry and needed “help” getting to sleep. This means stay in his room until he passes out. Joy.
On nights like this when I’m
trapped in there soothing his fears, I take my trusty iTouch in there and listen to some music while playing a mindless game.
So tonight while I was listening to my mellow music playlist and playing Zen Blitz, I got to wonderin’ what everyone else is listening to.
So! Here are the last 10 songs I played —
- “Do Not Hang Your Head” by Elizabeth and the Catapult
- “Southern Girl” by Amos Lee
- “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz
- “Here We Are” by Green River Ordinance
- “Amazing ” by One eskimO
- “You’re Not Going Anywhere ” by Brad Sucks
- “Laundry Room” by The Avett Brothers
- “Sparrow” by Kelley McRae
- “I Want You” by Matthew Perryman Jones
- “Alibi” by 30 Seconds to Mars
I listen to just about everything so I’d love to see what you’ve been listening to. Please post a reply with your list! 🙂
